Every December we get the Wednesday call about the Saturday party. Sometimes it is the Friday call about the Saturday party.

Here is the honest breakdown of what helps at each distance from the event.

Ten to fourteen days out: the ideal window

This is when to book anything with extractions.

Extractions are the single most useful thing you can do before an event, and they occasionally cause a purge two to three days afterward. Ten days gives you room for that to happen and resolve.

A full signature facial with proper extractions at this distance is the correct answer, and almost nobody books it because December 5 does not feel urgent yet.

Also the right window for a chemical peel, if that is in your plan.

Five to seven days out: still good

DiamondGlow is the pick here. Exfoliation, suction extraction, and serum infusion in one pass, with no heat and no manual pressure. Lower purge risk than a traditional extraction facial and immediate brightness.

A hydrating facial without aggressive extraction also works well.

Dermaplaning fits here too and makes makeup sit noticeably better.

Two to three days out: keep it gentle

Hydration only. No extractions, no peels, no new actives.

An enzyme treatment, a hydrating mask, LED. Things that plump and calm.

This is also the window for a spray tan and for lashes, in that order, and after any facial rather than before.

Day before: almost nothing

A hydrating mask at home. That is the list.

No facial, no extractions, nothing you have not used before. Every disaster story starts with someone trying something new the day before.

Drink water. Sleep. Skip the second glass of wine if you are prone to puffiness.

Day of

Cool compress or a jade roller in the morning for puffiness. Moisturize. Sunscreen even in December.

If your skin is doing something unexpected, do not attempt to fix it. Concealer and confidence beat panic exfoliation every time.

What to avoid in the final week

Anything with downtime. Microneedling, Morpheus8, aggressive peels, laser.

Any new product. Retinol you have not built up to. A friend's serum.

Picking. Especially picking.

Botox, if you are inside two weeks. It will not have settled and bruising takes a week to clear. See our post on the two week rule.

The realistic sequence for a December 20 event

December 6: facial with extractions. December 13: DiamondGlow or hydrating facial. December 17: spray tan. December 18: lashes. December 19: nothing. December 20: water and sleep.

Book ahead

Reserve a facial in North Phoenix, ideally more than three days out.
