Every year in mid-December someone calls wanting Botox for a party that weekend. Every year we have the same conversation.
It is not that we cannot fit you in. It is that Botox does not work fast enough to help you, and if you bruise you will look worse in photos than if you had done nothing.
The rule
Two weeks minimum between injection and the event. Three to four weeks if you want a correction window.
Full onset is day 10 to 14. Whatever you see at two weeks is your result.
The dates that matter
Working backward from the usual calendar:
Thanksgiving. Book by the first week of November. Family photos happen and they live forever.
Company holiday party. Most land in the first two weeks of December. Book by mid-November.
Christmas. Book by the second week of December at the absolute latest. Earlier is better because we are slammed.
New Year's Eve. Book by mid-December.
New Year headshots or a January work event. Book the week between Christmas and New Year, which is quiet and easy to get into.
Why December fills up
Injectable bookings roughly double in our practice from mid-November through December. Same is true at every med spa in the Valley.
That means fewer available slots, and it means the two week buffer disappears fast. By December 10, the appointments that would have worked are gone.
If you know you want this, book now. Cancelling is easy. Finding a December 18 slot on December 15 is not.
The bruising math
Bruising is uncommon but it happens, and it takes seven to ten days to resolve.
If you inject two weeks out and bruise on day one, you have four to seven days of clearance before the event. That is the entire reason for the buffer.
To reduce the risk: avoid fish oil, ibuprofen, aspirin, vitamin E and alcohol for about 48 hours beforehand, if your physician says that is safe for you. Arnica helps some people. Ice at the appointment helps.
Do not stop a prescribed blood thinner without talking to your doctor. Tell us instead and we will adjust technique.
If you are already inside the window
Do not get Botox. Get a facial instead.
A well-timed facial seven to ten days before an event will do more for how you look in photos than partially settled Botox with a bruise risk. Hydration, brightness, and clean skin photograph well.
Then book your Botox for January and stop cutting it close.
A note on stacking treatments
Holiday season is when people try to do everything at once. Botox, filler, a facial, a peel, lashes, spray tan, all inside ten days.
That is a bad plan. Space them. Something reacts, and then you are troubleshooting three variables at the same time.
Reasonable holiday sequence: Botox four weeks out, facial ten days out, lashes and spray tan two to three days out. Nothing new in the final 48 hours.
