Every four weeks. That is the standard answer, it is based on the roughly 28 day skin cell turnover cycle, and it is a reasonable default.
It is also not right for everyone, and the four week recommendation from a spa is not entirely disinterested advice. Here is a more useful framework.
Start with why you are going
Maintenance and general skin health. Every six to eight weeks is genuinely fine. You are keeping things clear and calm, not correcting anything.
Congestion and breakouts. Every four weeks, and this is where the cycle argument actually applies. Congestion accumulates on a predictable timeline and letting it build makes each appointment harder.
Correcting something specific. Pigment, texture, a barrier that is not holding. Every four weeks for a defined stretch of three to four months, then reassess. Treatment series have endpoints.
Relaxation. Whatever you can afford and enjoy. This is a legitimate reason and nobody should feel odd about it.
Before an event. Ten to fourteen days out, once. See our post on pre-event timing.
Adjust for season, especially here
Phoenix skin does not behave the same way year round and your schedule should reflect that.
May through September: more often. Heat drives oil production, you are applying and reapplying sunscreen all day, and congestion builds fast. Every four weeks if you are prone.
November through February: the concern flips to dehydration and barrier. Every six weeks with hydrating rather than clearing treatments.
March and April, September and October: transition months, pollen and changing conditions. Reactive skin needs calming treatments and less exfoliation than people assume.
Adjust for what else you are doing
If you are running a microneedling series, space facials so you are not stacking exfoliation. Nothing aggressive within a week either side of a needling appointment.
If you are on prescription retinoids or acne medication, your skin is already turning over faster. Less frequent, gentler facials.
If you have a solid home routine, you need less in-office frequency than someone who does not. That is worth saying out loud because spas rarely say it.
Adjust for budget
This is the part usually left out of these articles.
Our signature facials start at $59 and DiamondGlow starts at $190. Monthly DiamondGlow is a real annual commitment.
If budget is a constraint, the honest ranking is: consistent sunscreen first, a good home routine second, professional treatment third. Skipping sunscreen to afford monthly facials is backwards.
A realistic version might be a facial every eight weeks plus solid home care, and that will outperform sporadic expensive treatments.
Signs you are going too often
Skin that feels tight, thin, or reactive.
Increased sensitivity to products you have used for years.
Persistent redness.
Breakouts that started after you increased frequency.
Over-exfoliation is a real problem and it is common among people who are diligent. More is not better past a point.
Signs you are not going often enough
Congestion that never fully clears.
Products stopped absorbing well.
Texture you can feel with your hand.
Dullness that does not respond to hydration.
The honest summary
For most people in Phoenix with normal skin and a decent home routine, every six to eight weeks is plenty, with a tighter four week cadence during summer or while correcting something specific.
Anyone insisting everyone needs monthly regardless of skin, season or goal is selling a package.
