Microneedling is not a quick fix and anyone who tells you otherwise is doing you a disservice. It is a collagen play, and collagen runs on its own clock.
Which is exactly why May matters.
The timeline nobody explains up front
Here is what actually happens after a session.
Days one to three, you look like you got mild sun. Pink, tight, maybe a little sandpapery.
Week one, surface texture improves and people start telling you your skin looks good. That is mostly swelling and increased hydration. Nice, but not the point.
Weeks four through twelve, new collagen is being laid down. This is the part you paid for and it happens quietly.
Three to six months out, with a completed series, you see the actual change in texture, pore size and fine lines.
Do the math from May. A three-session series spaced four to six weeks apart wraps in July, and the real result lands somewhere between September and November. That is when you want to look your best anyway.
Start in August instead and you are hoping for results around the holidays, with the whole treatment window sitting in the worst sun months of the year.
Why summer complicates it
Freshly microneedled skin is more vulnerable to UV, and Arizona UV is not a small factor. In June and July the index sits at 10 or 11 for most of the day.
Post-treatment sun exposure is the fastest way to get hyperpigmentation from a treatment that was supposed to even out your tone. That is not a theoretical risk, it is the most common way microneedling goes sideways here.
You can absolutely microneedle in summer. Plenty of our clients do. It just requires more discipline about staying out of direct sun for a week and being genuinely rigorous with SPF. May is easier.
What microneedling is good at
Texture. Enlarged pores. Acne scarring, particularly rolling and boxcar scars. Fine lines. Overall skin quality and thickness.
What it is not great at, on its own: deep static wrinkles, significant laxity, and active cystic acne. If any of those are your main concern, we will point you toward Morpheus8 or a different plan entirely rather than sell you a series that will not deliver.
What a session is like
Numbing cream goes on for about 20 to 30 minutes. You will feel pressure and a scratchy sensation, more on the forehead and along the jaw where the skin is thin over bone. Most people rate it a three or four out of ten.
The needling itself takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on the areas treated. Then a calming serum and a mineral SPF.
Total appointment, roughly an hour and a half.
Microneedling starts at $210 per session at our North Phoenix studio, and packages bring the per-session cost down since almost everyone needs three or more.
Aftercare, briefly
No makeup for 24 hours. No working out or sweating heavily for 24 to 48 hours. No actives (retinol, vitamin C, acids) for about five days. No direct sun for a week, and mineral SPF every day after that whether or not you are outdoors.
Skip the cold plunge and the sauna for a couple of days too. Heat and open channels are not a good combination.
