Here is the problem with most spa gifts. A facial can read as a comment on someone's skin. A weight loss consult obviously does. Even a massage carries an assumption about how someone's body feels.
A head spa does not have that problem. It is a scalp treatment and a very long head massage. Nobody has ever received one and wondered what you meant by it.
Who it works for
People who do not want anything. The category that ruins December. A head spa is an experience rather than an object and it does not go in a closet.
Anyone stressed. Which in most families is everyone.
Someone who has never been to a spa. It is a low-intimidation entry point. You keep your clothes on, you lie back, and someone washes your hair for an hour.
People with long hair. They will understand the appeal instantly.
Your mother, mother in law, or anyone in that awkward gifting zone. No sizing, no taste, no implication.
Men. More of our head spa clients are men than people expect, and a lot of them arrived via a gift certificate they were skeptical about.
What it involves
Sixty or ninety minutes in a private room. Scalp analysis under magnification, a clarifying and chelating cleanse, sectioned exfoliation, a micro-bubble rinse that lifts debris out of the follicle, a treatment mask, extended massage through scalp, neck and shoulders, then conditioning and a blow dry.
They leave with clean hair and the specific dazed look people get after actually relaxing for an hour.
Sixty minute service starts at $130. Ninety minutes is the better gift if you are choosing between them, because the extra time is mostly more massage.
The Phoenix angle
Our water is very hard, generally 250 to 350 ppm total dissolved solids depending on the area. Mineral buildup at the follicle is a real problem here and almost nobody addresses it.
So beyond the relaxation, there is an actual technical benefit. Their hair will behave differently for weeks and their stylist will notice at the next appointment.
Practical notes for buying
Gift certificates do not expire on a schedule that makes you feel guilty, and the recipient books directly at their convenience.
If you are buying for someone with color-treated hair, extensions, or a keratin treatment, that is fine. We adjust products and technique. Just have them mention it when they book.
If they have a scalp condition under a dermatologist's care, have them check with that doctor first. We are happy to work around most things and there are a few we should not touch.
The pairing that people love
Head spa plus a facial as a half day. Facial first, head spa second, so they are not lying on freshly treated skin.
If you want to go bigger without going weird, that combination is the one.
