Here is why, plus the rest of the pre-event lash logistics that nobody explains until you are already lying on the table.

Why not the day of

The adhesive is still curing. Full cure takes about 24 to 48 hours. During that window, moisture and steam can affect the bond, and you cannot wash your face normally.

Your eyes may be slightly pink. Not everyone, but some people leave with mild redness from having their eyes closed under tape for two hours. It resolves within a few hours and you would rather it resolve on a Wednesday.

A brand new set looks its most obvious on day one. Lashes settle over a day or two and start moving with your natural lashes. Day two or three is when they look their best.

No margin for error. If something needs adjusting, you want a day to come back.

The right sequence for an event

Ten days out: facial with extractions, if you want one. Do not do a facial after lashes.

Two to three days out: lash appointment.

One to two days out: spray tan, if you are doing one. After lashes, not before, because tanning solution and fresh adhesive do not mix well and the shower schedule conflicts.

Day of: nothing new.

If you already have extensions

Book a fill, not a new set. Two to three weeks since your last appointment means you are due anyway.

If it has been more than four weeks, you may need a full set. Tell us how long it has been when you book so we schedule the right amount of time.

Do not book a fill for the day before and expect a dramatic change. A fill restores what you had.

Choosing the look

If this is your first set and the event matters, go hybrid rather than volume. It is fuller than classic, photographs well, and it does not commit you to a dramatic look you have not tried before.

If you want drama, say so clearly and bring a photo. Descriptions of lash looks are notoriously unreliable. Words like natural and full mean completely different things to different people.

The photo consideration

Lash extensions photograph darker and heavier than they look in a mirror. This surprises people.

If your event involves professional photos, go one step lighter than what looks right to you in the mirror. Every photographer will tell you the same thing.

Aftercare in the first 48 hours

No water for 24 hours. This is the one that matters most.

No steam, no sauna, no hot yoga, no long hot shower with your face in the spray.

No oil-based makeup remover or cleanser near your eyes. Ever, not just now.

Do not sleep face down the first night.

Making them last through the week

Brush them daily with a clean spoolie.

Clean them daily with a proper lash cleanser starting on day two. Dirty lash lines cause irritation and premature shedding, which is the opposite of what people assume.

Skip mascara. If your set needs mascara, it was the wrong set.
